Terms of use

Terms of use: what this comparison service does and does not do

Plain-language terms covering how we produce comparisons, how our editorial rankings and Healthcare Affordability Score work, what we are not allowed to do, and who is responsible for the advice you ultimately act on.

Accepting these terms

By using medicalinsurance.co.za you agree to these terms. If you do not agree with them, please do not use the comparison tools or submit an enquiry. We may update these terms; the version published on this page at the time you use the site is the one that applies.

What we provide

We are an independent comparison publisher. We collect published medical scheme and insurer information, structure it so it can be compared on equal terms, and publish editorial guides explaining how these products work in the South African market.

Where you ask to be contacted, we pass your enquiry to one accredited financial services provider licensed to advise on the product you asked about.

  • Side-by-side comparisons built from published 2026 scheme rate tables
  • Editorial scores and an indicative Healthcare Affordability Score based on your inputs
  • Guides, scheme reviews and worked cost examples
  • Referral to one accredited advisor, at your request

This is information, not financial advice

Nothing on this site is financial advice as defined in the Financial Advisory and Intermediary Services Act (FAIS). We do not know your full circumstances, and our pages are written for a general audience rather than for you specifically.

Product-specific advice, a needs analysis and a record of advice can only come from an accredited FSP. Ask for that record before you sign anything, and treat the scheme's own benefit schedule as the authoritative document.

Accuracy of premiums and benefits

Premiums shown on this site are indicative. They are drawn from published scheme rate tables and refreshed monthly, but your actual contribution depends on your age at joining, income band, dependants and the option you select — and schemes may change rates with regulatory approval.

We correct errors as soon as they are reported. If a figure on this site differs from the scheme's own current rate table, the scheme's table is correct and ours is out of date. Tell us and we will fix it.

How rankings and scores are produced

Editorial scores reflect our own assessment of hospital network breadth, specialist payment rate, chronic formulary, day-to-day benefits and co-payment structure. The Healthcare Affordability Score combines your stated budget and priorities with those editorial scores.

Commercial relationships do not change an editorial score or a ranking position. Where a listing is commercial, it is labelled as such on the row itself. Our disclosures page sets out every advertiser relationship in full.

Your obligations when using the site

Give accurate details. A quote produced from incorrect ages, dependants or income band will not match what a scheme actually charges, and an application based on inaccurate information can be declined or reversed.

  • Submit enquiries only for yourself or for someone who has asked you to act for them
  • Do not scrape, republish or resell our rate tables, reviews or scores without written permission
  • Do not attempt to disrupt, probe or overload the site or its APIs
  • You must be 18 or older to submit an enquiry

Limits of our responsibility

We take reasonable care to keep this site accurate and available, but we do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted or error-free. To the extent permitted by South African law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of the site or from a product you buy from a third party.

Your contract for the cover itself is with the scheme or insurer, and the advice you act on is the advisor's. Complaints about a product or about advice go to that provider, and then to the Council for Medical Schemes or the FAIS Ombud as appropriate.

Intellectual property

Our editorial content, comparison structures, scoring methodology and brand assets belong to us. Scheme names, plan names and logos belong to their owners and are used for identification only. You may quote short extracts with a link back to the page you took them from.

Governing law and contact

These terms are governed by South African law and the courts of South Africa have jurisdiction. For questions about these terms, corrections to a published figure, or a complaint about how we handled an enquiry, email hello@medicalinsurance.co.za and we respond within five working days.
